I Watch Films: Devil Girl From Mars
Devil Girl From Mars
A diverse cast of characters arrive in the Bonnie Charlie, a remote inn in the highlands of Scotland. It’s the off-season and there’s a storm. There’s a famous model seeking privacy. The new maid has a boyfriend who has escaped from prison. The landlord and opinionated landlady have a young nephew. And finally a professor and a journalist are up from London, looking for reports of a meteorite.
It's not a meteorite, it’s a spaceship with Nyah, a raygun-armed, stylishly dressed woman from Mars, also her robot. She’s looking for men; apparently the war between the sexes has been not only non-metaphorical on Mars, but devastating.
She asks for volunteers; none forthcoming she traps them with an invisible wall and has the robot start destroying things outside. Various attempts to trick her are made, but she also has mind control powers. Eventually one of the men volunteers and manages to destroy the spaceship in flight, a happy ending for the men of Earth, though maybe not for the women of Mars.
Watch This: Stylish female villain and a tense set up
Don’t Watch This: Despite her technological superiority Nyah
is surprisingly easy to get the better of – she is after all a mere woman
