The Bride (1985)

Baron Charles Frankenstein (STING!) creates a bride for the creature (Clancy Brown). She (Jennifer Beals!) is afraid of him, and the creature flees the castle after destroying the laboratory so everyone thinks he’s dead.

The creature teams up with Rinaldo, a dwarf, who names him Victor and they join the circus. The circus master (played by Alexei Sayle) wants to keep Victor, who he thinks strong, useful and simple, and get rid of Rinaldo. Eventually Rinaldo is killed when his harness is sabotaged, Victor runs amuck and, guided by visions, returns to the castle.

Back at the castle Frankenstein educates the bride, who he names Eva. She knows nothing, is completely ignorant and he tries to mould her into a woman equal to a man. Doing so however means she keeps going off on her own, investigating the walled up, damaged part of the castle and flirting with a cavalry officer. She also gets visions, linked to Victor.

Eventually she tries to run off with the cavalry officer at the same time as Victor returns for a suitably gothic-horrific climax.
