Shoveling Snow For Money by Wayne McCray in Roi Fainéant

Jaybird makes money in the Southside of Chicago in winter by digging out snow. He got more and more clients, but his clothes were inadequate. So his mother got a family friend who works for the National Park Service in Alaska to send him proper winter wear.

His best client is a house, and he knows what goes on there, but he doesn’t know why, on Sundays, when a particular car turns up, two lights go out and the third goes from red to blue. But today he’s going to dig out their sidewalk and entrance and the car is snowed in. He’s going to learn a few things.
