I Read Stories: Tollbooth Madonna by Kayla Rutledge
Tollbooth Madonna by Kayla Rutledge in Fractured
“In her old age, the Virgin Mary moves to your town in the North Carolina backwoods, buys a fixer-upper and takes walks on the side of the freeway.”
The narrator is the tollbooth operator and so gets to see her as she walks. She just lives there, a minor local celebrity. People gossip about her, worry about a second coming.
There might be one miracle.
