I Read Stories: The Demon-Sage's Daughter by Varsha Dinesh

The Demon Sage’s Daughter
by Varsha Dinesh in Strange Horizons

There are stories about the demon sage, and his daughter Devayani and the princess. Two at least, and maybe more. The demon sage is the only one who knows the magic of resurrection. His daughter weaves the new skins for those brought back to live again in.

Kacha is the Demon Sage’s apprentice, and his betrayer and Devayani’s lover. And still the Demon Sage will not give the secret of resurrection, not to either of them.

Not unless he must. Not unless death is upon them and he cannot be the one to speak the spell. Not unless the trick is carried out right down to the bloody ends.

But if the Demon Sage dies then the demons will go to war with the gods, and all the earth will be destroyed when their power is unleashed.

Read This: Because this, at last, is not the story of the princess, or the apprentice or even the demon sage
Don’t Read This: You prefer a single narrative, from start to finish
