I Read Books: Back To Reality

Back To Reality

A friend lent me this book saying I would know why and I don’t know why? Maybe I should ask him. Anyway in one world Yohanna is a musician on the verge of stardom who is about to drive a double-decker bus over a cliff. In another world it’s 20 years later and Johanna is a married marketing executive at odds with her musician daughter, about to go viral with an accidental sex-video with her husband, who is on the verge of leaving her for unrelated reasons.

They swap places and find themselves in each other’s worlds, one as a ghost, the other a 42 year old cynical Mum in a starlets body who is nevertheless not cynical enough for pop stardom, especially one where the pop culture figures have taken different paths (for example, on a chat show, she comes on after Harrison Ford, to discover that Star Wars flopped and Tom Selleck was Indiana Jones). She then steals an Adele song.

They have to get back before the summer solstice, according to Yohanna’s guru, and in both worlds they have to find the spot where the leylines meet (SPOILERS: The Pyramid Stage, Glastonbury).

Read This: For a wacky and tumultuous rollercoaster of time travel, alternate history, generational family conflict and pop music
Don’t Read This: For any great insight into any of these
