I Watch Films: Gambit

Gambit

Michael Caine has a plan for a heist. In Hong Kong he has discovered a dancer who looks exactly like the 10 years dead wife of (probably) the richest man in the world (Herbert Lom), who in turn resembled an ancient and priceless Chinese statue (all three Shirley MacLaine). Using her as an entry into Lom’s character’s home he plans to stage a robbery while she distracts him. We see his plan as he describes it in the Hong Kong club to his partner, and it goes perfectly with MacLaine playing her part completely expressionlessly.

He then calls her over and everything deviates from his plan immediately. She keeps asking difficult questions and offering advice. They are spotted as suspicious characters immediately and traps are set.

Watch This: For a fun and funny crime caper
Don’t Watch This: If people trying to outwit one another with secret compartments, fake copies of art, alarms and cunning is an annoyance
