I Read Stories: Bear Creek Gazette Issue 4

Bear Creek Gazette
Issue 4

Bear Creek Gazette is a magazine of weird fiction from the fictional town of Bear Creek. I have a piece in Issue 4 about cannibalism, fungus, faerie, food and immortality, also (briefly) racism, drug abuse and suicide. If that seems your thing then you might try Fruit Of Decay. But there’s plenty of other stuff there; here’s my personal highlights.

Bear Creek Roller Rink Temporarily Closed To Undergo Deep Cleaning by Sunny Ahmed has Ruth return to Bear Creek to find that the Gay-Straight-Monster-Slayer Alliance has changed the day it meets at the Roller Rink. So Sage, who works there now, brings her up to speed. Dark, funny here and there, well observed small moments of menial work.

I Am Not A Robot by John O’Donovan – Jerome works in the robot factory, and at home is Iris a mermaid he rescued. They are an unusual couple. Short, sweet, punchy.

From Stone To Mirror by Sofia Ezdina – In the third of a monster trilogy of suggestions, Meddy and Bazz are enjoying coffee in the diner, but soon the peace will be shattered. Fun, funny, a pastiche of a movie scene.

It’s not all monster, there’s plenty of other things to check out.

Read This: Lots of weirdness here
Don’t Read This: You prefer some normal stories
At This Moment: Bear Creek Gazette's twitter account has become the Grizzly Brook Review due to some alternate universe shenanigans
