I Read Stories: Anchorage by Samantha Mills

Anchorage
by Samantha Mills

The spaceship Meterodora comes across an anchorage, a deep space hermitage occupied by an anchoress. Traditionally walled up, they offer books and media and entertainment in exchange for food (and new information).

They are waiting for resupply so visit, despite the risk of being contamination by alien lichen (not actually lichen). Everyone has secrets and regrets to confess and that includes the ship’s robot, and the story’s narrator, Geneva.

Read This: A science fiction story that is a little bit classic with technical revelations, and a little bit new with a focus on loss and secrets
Don’t Read This: If people hanging about in a space ship while a robot watches sounds dull
