I Watch Films: Blood From The Mummy's Tomb

Blood From The Mummy’s Tomb

An Egyptian Queen has her hand cut off and is buried in the prologue. Back in the 20th century there is an expedition that digs her up. Several of the members of the expedition have fallen out in the 20 years that have passed since. One of them, Professor Fuchs, gives his daughter Margaret (played by Valerie Leon, as is the Egyptian Queen Tera) a ring with a big old jewel with the Big Dipper (seven stars) on it. Strange things start to happen, members of the expedition are attacked and have artefacts stolen. Fuchs turns out to have recreated the tomb in his basement!

This Hammer horror film is almost exactly as might be expected, from Leon wandering around in a nightie in a trance, gory (but not very gory) murders, weird psychedelic visions that don’t quite convince, people with hidden motives and everyone obsessed with various aspects of Egyptology. It’s based on Bram Stoker’s The Jewel of the Seven Stars, marginally updated for the 70s.

Watch This: For a fun 70s hammer horror film with the odd Egyptian theme*
Don’t Watch This: For anything especially new or unexpected.

* A character waking up in hospital covered in bandages like a mummy is a nice touch

While searching online I found there were several posters that I thought caught the 70s Hammer spirit quite well and couldn't choose between them, so have a gallery
