I Read Books: Stalking Darkness

Stalking Darkness

The sequel to Flewelling’s Luck in the Shadows makes this essentially a duology (later books in the series do not mesh together so closely). There is skulduggery afoot in Rhiminee, as war with Plenimar grows near. A minor character in the first book who joined the Queen’s Horse Guards comes to the fore in this part, our viewpoint to the fighting.

The viewpoints remain a little scattershot, jumping all over the place as Flewelling needs them, but focussing mostly on Seregil and Alec, who uncover plots not quite in time to save people they love. Then they get put through the ringer, with mental torture on one side and the need to sacrifice a friend on the other.

For a light breezy fantasy adventure about elf rogues doing crimes and conniving it gets a bit dark, is what I’m saying. Which might have been flagged up by the title.

Read This: For a satisfying if gruesome conclusion to Luck in the Shadows
Don’t Read This: If you don’t want light-hearted thieving mashed up to necromantic horror.
