I Read Stories: The Turn Of The Screw

The Turn Of The Screw by Henry James

In the introduction people are telling ghost stories and one is noted as being very shocking due to it involving a child, but then one guy says, hey you think that’s bad? Here’s another turn of the screw, I know one that involves... two children! But, uh, I need to send to London for the documents.

This is an unpromising start, but it picks up, and by picks up I mean that Henry James creates atmosphere with his characteristically long sentences with many clauses. It’s like bathing in a sea of languid words! Anyway, this is a classic ghost story, it’s not long though modern writers would probably use half as many words, so I guess you’d lose something from it then.
