365 Poems in 365 Days: Sister Before Misters
I have never had a sister
(Apologies to the women I have
Implicitly or explicitly siblinged;
You are not forgotten or missed here,
Simply set in a category that has
Been labelled “not by blood related”)
But I wonder, would she have been tall?
Or have the deepset eyes I share
With my brother and my father?
She’d probably be clever – too clever in all
Respects, and her jokes would dare -
Maybe less like me and more of my mother.
Number 179. As noted my parents did not provide me with any sisters, so I found a few of my own along the way. Still, a bit of speculation here. It's not good - I found it hard to shape the words to what I meant. I suspect this would work better as a prose piece.
