One More Shot (2025)

On New Year’s Eve 1999 Minnie is an anaesthesiologist in Australia. She encounters her ex whose wife is having a baby; this rattles her as he left because he said he didn’t want children, but apparently this was just with her. At home she’s staying with Flick and Max, her friends, on their sofa bed, and may be outstaying her welcome. Not sure if she wants to go to the New Years party with her friends she changes her mind when she learns another ex, Joe, is back from America. She takes a bottle of tequila she was given ten years go when some of the friends went to Mexico.

It turns out the tequila is a time traveling variety. She takes a swig at the door, and then goes into the party. Joe turns out to have an American girlfriend Jennie; Minnie walks into a glass door. Helping her in the bathroom she and Joe almost kiss. Back at the party those who went to Mexico share stories; then at midnight Rodney fakes the Y2K bug shutting things down to the annoyance of his wife Pia. Minnie takes another swig of the tequila and returns to the door, at the start of the party, in puzzlement.

Minnie cycles through the party, each attempt to make things right going worse. She learns secrets, about Joe, about Rodney and Pia, about Jenny. And most of all about herself. It’s a comedy! Some of the jokes are good, each loop reveals something new, Minnie’s attempts to fix things go entertainingly wrong, and when the other bottle of tequila is revealed then it becomes obvious how frivolously, obsessively Minnie is wrapped up in her problems and conversely how cold-blooded another character is.
