Messiah Of Evil

Arletty Lang is looking for her estranged father Joseph in the beach town of Point Dune. His seafront home is deserted. His diary has odd dreams and strange occurrences. In town the next day the local art dealer tells her three people were looking for her father. Going to the motel she meets Thom and Laura, who dress well, and their companion Toni. They’re interviewing a homeless man named Charlie who gives the backstory of the town which is that the moon turned red a hundred years ago and the townspeople all went cannibal. After an unenlightening talk,  Charlie warns Arletty against her father, saying she must burn his body.

The next day Thom, Laura and Toni arrive at the house, having been thrown out after Charlie was discovered dead in the alley behind the motel, apparently chewed by dogs. She lets them stay. Thom wonders if Joseph knew about the legends of Point Dune as he collects them. Arletty mentions the groups who gather on the beach around bonfires. Thom flirts with Arletty, so Laura walks out, only to be attacked and eaten in town.

The police tell Arletty Jospeh is dead, crushed by a sculpture on the beach. When they go to see there is only a hand emerging from the collapsed sculpture. Arletty reads from the diary, Joseph noting his body temperature has dropped and he thinks he’s possessed. Arletty tells Thom the body is not Joseph. Toni goes into town, is eaten at the movie theatre. Looking for her Thom is chased by a horde of cannibals. Two police try to stop them until one notices the other is bleeding from the eyes and tries to shoot him. It doesn’t work. Arletty vomits insects, is visited by Joseph who explains more about the cult and the dark stranger who will emerge from the sea before turning cannibal and she kills him. She stabs Thom before she realises he’s not a cannibal, the two then struggling against the townspeople.
