Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning

It’s the early 19th century in what’s now Canada. A fur trading station sends a party each year to sell pelts and buy winter supplies, but it hasn’t returned. Two sisters, Brigitte and Ginger, find themselves lost in the wilderness. In an abandoned camp a Cree woman warns them they will have to kill a boy to avoid one sister killing the other*. Howling creatures scare off their horse, then a Cree Hunter, known as The Hunter, finds them and takes them to the station.

The station is besieged by werewolves, and the inhabitants are suspicious of them. They explain that they are seeking passage east, their father having died on the trail. The physician examines Brigitte’s wound, using a leech to detect if she has werewolfism in her blood (an interesting test!)

Werewolves have taken the captain’s wife and son. Everyone has a different idea of what they should do, the captain trying to maintain calm and normality. Inevitably things get out of hand. Is this a Cree curse? What is the relationship between this and the later films?

Watch This: Stylish, paranoid period werewolf story
Don’t Watch This: The same sisters and werewolves taken out of their context to one that makes less sense
