I Read Stories: Hatchlings by Rose Biggin
Hatchlings by Rose Biggin in Crow And Cross Keys
Gretchen sees an iron bird and a fox-creature fight, both of them dying. She finds some eggs the bird was defending and takes them home.
Her godmother in the cottage tells her to get rid of them but she doesn’t. They hatch in the cellar and she feeds them on hot coals.
She’s their mother now, in all ways that matter. And they are dependent on her. And they may be deadly.
