That Story Isn’t The Story by John Wissel in Uncanny

Anton is one of Mr Bird’s familiars, or blood slaves, or followers, a vampire's victim. But he manages to leave. Grigorii, a friend from before, comes when he calls, and takes him away, letting him live in his house, finding him work.

Grigorii doesn’t know about vampires, but he does know a bit about cults, and that’s what Anton’s left. But he can never leave it behind. He has to live with that, and deal with the threats and danger. He has to decide what his story is today.
