I Read Stories: Bones In It by Kristina Ten

Bones In It
by Kristina Ten in Lightspeed

There is a vedma in a Russian baths in San Francisco. The original owners fed it and kept steam room three out of use (where it lived behind the stove). But they died unexpectedly and the new owners have re-made it into a modern, vegan spa, and a mysteriously closed room is leaving money on the table. The vedma starves, wanting something to eat with bones in it.

There’s a tenured professor at the university who takes advantage of his students. And his mother has sent him a gift voucher for a spa day. The two will meet.

It will be monstrous.
