The World Of Hammer

A documentary series of Hammer Film Productions, grouping films by theme, genre, or actor. The story is told through clips of the films, narrated by Oliver Reed. Sometimes these bring back older and more obscure films, tracing a lineage. Occasionally the development of an idea can be seen. One or two are interesting, Hammer are best known for horror films, yet there were enough war films for an episode, and more general historical dramas to have an episode on costuming.

However other than notable scenes and highlights of curiosities there’s not a lot here, even for the dilettante. For someone unfamiliar with the studio’s work there’s some interesting leads for them to follow. In most cases they would do better to seek out the film the clips came from.
