I Watch TV: The InBetween
The InBetween
Cass (Harriet Dyer) can see the dead and also has various
other visions. Her dad (Paul Blackthorne) is a Seattle police detective*.
Together they fight crime!
The show is better than it sounds, perhaps at its best when
it commits to horror. Cass goes to a hospital and to her it’s basically a
zombie movie filled with maimed people staggering about. The dead serial killer
who is trying to get out of the InBetween by maybe doing good is fairly creepy.
It doesn’t seem to have anything to say about crime or
detective work, which is a pity as at least half of every episode is the cops
going around doing cop stuff. It doesn’t have the immediacy of Cass’s
visions. They cancelled it after ten episodes which is sad as if they’d managed
to get Blackthorne and his partner (Justin Cornwell) to do something a bit more
interesting it would have been rather good.
Watch This: For ten episodes of supernatural crime
Don’t Watch This: If supernatural crime sounds awful
* He’s British so Paul Blackthorne uses his native
accent which was quite disorienting as I’d only ever heard him use an American
one. Also he drinks Yorkshire Gold tea.
