I Watch TV: Delicious (again)
Here we are with a third season of Delicious, a food and family based comedy drama. Elliot Mason, a rival of the still dead Leo (Iain Glen) comes to Cornwall, looking to woo away chefs from Sam and Gina’s hotel the Penrose. Complications ensue as Teresa returns, pregnant and Mimi has breast cancer.
Something I failed to note last time was that although the main plot develops over the four episodes, each one has an almost unrelated sub-plot that hides in the cracks of the main story, with one big scene. Everyone who lives nearby or comes to the Penrose has a tragic backstory or an unrequited love, or is just a weirdo. The leading characters aren’t unique in having strange stuff happen to them all the time.
Still funny, and it does take a dark turn once or twice, though the worst tragedies are blunted rather than accentuated by the humour.
Watch This: Because it’s still a darkly funny drama about death, sex, family and running a restaurant
Don’t Watch This: If you want any of the above stuff taken extremely seriously
