I Read Stories: By The Hand That Casts It
By The Hand That Casts It by Stephanie Charette
The greatest assassin in the city retired to become the greatest practitioner of floriography, the art of sending messages with flowers. But now it seems that unfinished business from her former profession has caught up with her.
This is excellent fun, perhaps a little long and detailed in the fight, and maybe a bit over-explaining about the flowers. But on the other hand if that had been the way it was written I’d probably be here saying “I’d like more explanation of the floriography and the fight needed clarifying.” Perhaps my problem is that the story is a little slight, and I would have liked something using the same elements, but longer and meatier.
Which is very unfair on the story we got, an enjoyable mix of flowers, wit, dark pasts, gadgets and fights.
