I Watch Films: Demons Of The Mind

Demons Of The Mind (1972)

In probably the 19th century Baron Zorn’s wife died of mental illness; concerned that his adult son and daughter are also going insane he locks them up in his creepy mansion. His daughter Elizabeth escapes, and meets with a kind man in the forest called Carl. She’s found and taken back. Dr Falkenberg, on his way to the mansion to try and cure the children, meets Carl, who joins him. He wants to let Elizabeth free. Meanwhile she and her brother are incestuously obsessed with each other.

In another plot line someone is killing young women in the farms and village around the mansion. A priest arrives in the village, decides he should solve this. Hearing about a creepy mansion and the reclusive Baron Zorn, he thinks it might be him and stirs up the villagers.

This is a slow and creepy horror film, with lots of stuff implied. Until the end when everything comes together in a violent finale. Atmospheric but not adding up to much.
